I was fuming when I watched the live broadcast of Malaysian Parliament. A Minister was finding all excuses not to provide broadband access to East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak). Some excuses cited were "Don't compare Malaysia to Singapore and South Korea", "Difficulty laying cables underneath the South China Sea", "South Korea is a highly urbanised country" and bla bla bla.

Sad to know that people in East Malaysia are left behind in terms of overall development. I'm sure someone can do a better job than him!

Epson SureColor printers and Contex scanners

After viewing the exhibits at Hapond's booth, I turned to Epson's booth which was next to Hapond's. Epson was showing large format printers meant for industrial uses.


One of the products were Epson SureColor series inkjet printers. They are capable of printing papers up to 44 inches in width. By the way, you're looking at Epson SureColor T3070 in the photo above.


Contex SD3600 series scanners can be attached to the printer.

The printer and scanner you saw above are meant for architecture, engineering, town planning or any job that requires printing on large papers.

I had a chance to be introduced to Epson Stylus Photo R2000 and R3000 printers. These printers weren't among the exhibits, but I was told that Epson Stylus Photo printers are launched to cater the needs of professional photographers.

Hapond Booth for Digital Cutter and UV Dried Plotter

This is part of a series of my visit to Malaysia Sign and LED Expo 2013.

Part 1: Entering the 24th Malaysia International Sign and LED Exhibition

The booth belonging to Hapond is one of the first booths to be noticed upon entering the exhibition hall.

Hapond was showing two main products: digital cutters and plotters. Both machines are important for the print advertisement industry.

Digital cutters, as suggested by name, cuts a piece of material with instructions from a computer. They are also called digital plotters.



Most of them uses laser to guide the path of the cutting tool.



Digital cutters can be used to cut papers and cardboard, suitable for most needs.

Let's look at plotters by Hapond.



Plotters are named as such because early models hold a pen to draw lines on papers (hence the name 'plot'), though they are now regarded as large format printers.





This model of plotter uses non-solvent based inks and comes with ultraviolent (UV) lamps to dry the inks. Printed materials can be dried immediately using this method.

Plotters using solvent based inks are dried with exposure to air and takes a little time.
