Biorefresher: Puasa for one day

Biorefresher 1

Salute Joseph Germani (Youtuber) for experiencing fasting for one day himself!

Biorefresher 2

Have you watched Asians at Work 2? Asian behaviours can be so funny! If you have missed Part 1, you can find it here.

Biorefresher 3

Breaking news! Four Muslim contestants in Miss Malaysia World 2013 were disqualified following the advice of Federal Territories religious mufti. Even I was quite outraged to hear that! The contestants are okay with wearing sportswear instead of swimwear during the swimsuit segment; moreover the grand final will be held in Indonesia. As far as I can remember there was one contestant winning beauty contests with costumes complete with headscarf. Beauty contests nowadays are no longer about showcasing attractiveness but presenting the overall quality of a person.

I have so much to say about this, but this is said nicely as Josh Lim (founder of Advertlets) puts it, "Progress is made one funeral at a time. Maybe one day it'll be possible."

Samsung Galaxy 5: Foursquare and Google Maps

How to use your Samsung Galaxy 5 to the fullest? As I've mentioned earlier, this basic Android phone is equipped with GPS, making usage of Foursquare and maps possible.

gps and network location setting

To ensure proper function of geo-location social networking and mapping softwares, I advise you to enable both network based and GPS based location determination. At first, when I tried using Foursquare, it didn't work until I turned on wireless network location determination.

You can access the screen above by going to your phone settings under "Location and security settings".

With the best settings, you are ready to go with Foursquare.

This is the user profile page, in which I've added him as a friend.

You can see how many mayorship your friend has.

The fundamental function of Foursquare, checking in to a venue. You can choose to add a shout and ping Twitter regarding your arrival at a venue after pressing "Check in".

Another great motivation to buying a smartphone is to make use of the map application when you are out and about. Preloaded onto Samsung Galaxy 5, Google Maps is one of the most basic of all.

With GPS and wireless network location determination combined, your current location can be pinpointed with a reasonable accuracy (indoor).

Samsung Galaxy 5: Twitter

Upon receiving my review unit of Samsung Galaxy 5, what's the first thing in my mind? You name it, it's Twitter to stay me on the information loop.

One of the very popular Twitter client is .

TweetDeck on Samsung Galaxy 5 Android

TweetDeck is a good application however, as I've mentioned earlier in the previous post, the quirky scrolling spoiled my experience.

I wanted to scroll through the vast number of tweets by using kinetic scrolling but many a times, I accidently clicked a tweet. I had to keep on using the back key to return to the timeline.

Your other alternative to using Twitter on Samsung Galaxy 5 would be the native application.

twitter native app samsung galaxy 5 android

Using the native app, you still get to use much of the basic functionality of Twitter.

As with any other apps, you can press the Menu key to gain access to many additional functionality in the Twitter native app.

Social experience goes hand in hand with the user interface of your phone. As large amount of information are sent through social networks, comfort with user interface should be your top priority.

It's your window to the world, sitting in the palm of your hand.

Not only you can receive information from a social network, but with the Samsung Galaxy 5, you can share information across social networks. Simply press the Menu key and select "Share" on the pop up menu.

You are not limited to these softwares to enjoy Twitter. With the Android marketplace, you can download many good apps, most of them for free.

All Martial Arts Exhibition at Muzium Telekom

What can you enjoy before you finish your days in year 2010? For me, thanks to Advertlets, I had the opportunity to watch Muay Thai kickboxing at Telekom Museum.

Real men fight in the ring poster All martial arts exhibition

All Martial Arts Exhibition, AMAE aimed to promote benefits of practising martial arts to individual and society in regards to self-discipline, confidence, health, mutual respect, patience. One of the main objectives of AMAE is to cultivate interest in the practice of martial arts in youth and adults.

This Fight Night was a LIVE event broadcasted on Astro ARENA channel featuring the best of Malaysian and international Muay Thai kickboxers. This was my first time watching a boxing event as my entertainment!

Ahmad Shabery Cheek
Our Minister of Youth and Sports Dato' Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek came to officiate the Fight Night. He was flattered (terharu) for being called the architect of our victory in AFF Suzuki Cup lool. Of course, he praised all Malaysians for their joint effort to usher the victory for our soccer team!

is the national sport of Thailand. It's name refers to the "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science Of Eight Limbs" making use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes.

Let the rumble begin!

muay thai real men fight in the ring

The first night of the event had four matches in which Malaysians were pitted against international opponents from Iran and Thailand. Each match consists of 3x3 minute rounds.

A coach shouted "thip! thip!" to his contestant during the match. It's a Thai word for "foot thrust".

Matches were darn interesting! We shouted, cheered and gave support for our kickboxers. Their skills are amazing! Crowds were on high that night.

After the matches, contestants receive a medal for the job well done!

Of course not forgetting to camwhore with fellow bloggers:

Samsung Galaxy 5: the interface

Courtesy of Advertlets, I had the opportunity to review Samsung Galaxy 5.

Samsung Galaxy 5 and Nokia 5230.

As an entry level touch-screen phone, it's fair to compare it with my Nokia 5230. Nokia 5230 employs the resistive touchscreen technology while Samsung Galaxy 5 uses capacitive technology - this translates into very different user experience. Nokia 5230 works well with stylus or fingernails; Samsung Galaxy 5 with bare fingers.

To start it off, Galaxy 5 runs on Android version 2.1 (Eclair).

It is packed with features for an all-rounded experience. For a price tag of RM 699, this device features Bluetooth, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g and A-GPS - extremely good for an entry-level product.

buttons Samsung Galaxy 5

Although packed with features, I gotta be honest with you that its touchscreen cannot really differentiate between light touch and heavy touch - leading to many mistakes that I had to press the "back" key to get back. In other words, I meant to drag, but the phone interpreted as "press".

The home screen. It's the shortcut to many of your beloved apps and features, however setting it up was a pain for me due to its error prone touchscreen.

For social networking fans, input of the phone is of utmost concern when it comes to usage.

Numeric keypad was fine but took me some time to get used to.

Considering that the screen is 2.8" big, typing on the QWERTY keypad in portrait mode gave me a relatively high error rate. The keys are quite small.

Turning the phone into landscape remedied the high error rate.

Input method can be interchanged by pressing and holding on the text space on the screen. In the menu that pops up, you can select other input methods like Swype and Chinese IME. Let us see how to input Chinese with Samsung Galaxy 5.

Chinese characters can be entered in the Chinese IME mode. You begin by typing the pronunciation of the character and select from possible suggestions. Tap on the character you want. Just like other input methods, entering Chinese is very intuitive.

Lastly, to access more functions in an app, simply press the menu key on the phone. Available options vary according to apps.

In the coming post of my review series, I'll be taking you to a tour of social apps I've used with Samsung Galaxy 5.

#smashpopsgiveaway heat is ON

Just came back from ANZAAS free science talk at Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) where the main speaker was Professor Andrew Gleadow of the School of Earth Sciences at The Unviersity of Melbourne. His talk was super duper awesome he talked about plate tectonics and geology and how to piece those clues on the surface on the Earth to tell a beautiful story geological history of Victoria! Australia was once jointed with Antarctica, broke away into two pieces so Aussie moved upward! And yes, there were active volcanoes in Victoria and you can even see caldera from Google Earth, the remnants of volcanoes looks like scar from a pimple zomg!

Even today mini earthquakes are happening everywhere in Victoria caused by stress that propagated through tectonic plate collision at the Himalayas. Long long before today Victoria was a geologically dangerous place and now the modern day equivalent is the plate boundary at Indonesian Java and Sumatera. Okay, enough of crapping.

The heat is ON for #smashpopsgiveaway so it's Tan Chammaine vs Kim Wei Wei it's the most exciting bitch fight ever because they have so many mutual friends and belong to the same circle of bloggers wtf.
