The Monash footprints
I had my dinner after finishing Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia Melbourne chapter (featuring Lim Guan Eng's public lecture). A chap told me about studying in Monash Malaysia, debunking the myth of varying standards among campuses of the same university.
Standard is maintained across all campuses by the same university, learning culture in a country does not necessarily affect learning outcomes, as they came to my realisation. She experienced varying teaching standard across campuses, however it is not necessary to say that home campus of the university is better.
It's the same Monash, same standard. So, be rest assured.

RIM BlackBerry Playbook
Research In Motion has just announced Playbook to answer challenges from Apple iPad.
Playbook will run on a QNX based operating system named BlackBerry Tablet OS
The device features 7 inch display, a dual core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 3 megapixel front camera with 5 megapixel rear lens.
WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 keep you connected all time. The device will be capable of multitasking as well as handling Adobe Flash multimedia and AIR apps.
Where's the 3G connectivity? RIM has not commented on further connectivity options for now, but didn't deny that upcoming models will feature the technology.
What are the apps to make Playbook worthy of our bucks?
BB Playbook is set to hit the shelves early next year. I can't wait to be touched by it!

World Cyber Games Malaysia 2010
I went to World Cyber Games Malaysia held at MVEC during winter recess. WCG2010 M'sia spanned 3 days, cyberathletes nationwide gathered to test their skills, earning them a place to represent Malaysia to the WCG Grand Final.
A consumer fair of tech products was held along the competitive play. Many exhibitors showcased online games, I was asked to try out each of them.
My main motivation to attend WCG was to practise my photography skills w/ showgirls.
This is what the showgirls called "lucky guy shot" :)

AMD+ATi, both undergone DNA Digivolution to bring us awesome experiences.

MOL, being the largest exhibitor and major sponsor of WCG, however disappointed me with their showgirl outfit.

I faced the limitations of a point-and-shoot. At times, lighting don't seem to be right.
Broadband and online games must come together.

Jason Derulo fan meet @ Dragonfly

When was the last time I present myself at a fan meet? That was years ago when I was on a first aid duty with St John Ambulance at S.H.E. fan meet @ Berjaya Times Square.
That afternoon, I tried buying a Jason Derulo album at Pavillion KL but no avail. I headed to Dragonfly anyway. When you press in for something, there you have it! Album sale at-the-door :)
Look at the crowd eager for their idol!

We were made to wait! But he'll finally appear right? Have the faith!

Must admit the dancers were hot that they were distracting my attention for Jason.
This girl was so honoured to be chosen by Jason to be on stage!
Not only Jason can sing, he danced well too! Really hope some day someone will be like him, make us proud in the entertainment scene.
Took the opportunity to have my album signed by Jason Derulo before fan meet ended. My yield was not bad after all!
I'm awaiting for an opportunity to meet Clair Kuo 郭静. Till then!

The Pokemon reminiscence
These are all my childhood memories! Pokemon was such a phenomenon when it arrived in Malaysia, all memories flooded back - the day when NTV7 started airing the animated series at night. Pokemon is more than an ordinary anime or cartoons - it's an epic of Ash fulfilling his dreams to become a Pokemon Master.
The first three seasons of the series are simply the best, until NTV7 messed it up somehow. Youtube wasn't the trend back then, and I discontinued watching the series altogether.
The current generation of children audience are my contemporaries, they still somehow enjoy Pokemon perhaps. Ash and Pikachu are still familiar names, but what about Brock, Misty and the likes? They may be amazed at how powerful Ash's Pokemon are, but do they know this anime has come a long way? That Ash has improved so much since he hailed from Pallet Town?
I am now watching the missed episodes over the internet, 8 episodes per day - I can finish a season in one week! That's thanks to online video hosting sites.

That's what I call a phenomenon. I may not understand alien languages but the word Pokemon is identifiable to everyone. No matter your language is, you watch the same story as others. But I don't quite find myself identify with Chinese theme songs.

Hitting upon the limitations
After viewing the media report of people speaking in tongues, my response is that, how can you look at the flesh to (fully) explain a spiritual phenomenon? The conclusion is a partial answer: utterances are not of the speaker's will. The next question is: what causes these utterance? Answer: Holy Spirit praying through the person.
However, the title is a little misleading. It cannot be said that the Holy Spirit is praying through (although the answer is!) due to the study approach. To a certain extent, science can verify faith, just be aware of the limitations of the scientific method.

The essence of biochemistry
I'm now dwelling in metabolism, the reason why biochemistry exist in the first place. The lecturer is such a funny guy, he always make seemingly mundane reactions fun to learn.
Multiple choice questions are part and parcel of academic life, from the time I was a kid till university. The answer of MCQ is revealed, all you need to do is just get rid of distractions to be deemed righteous. But when things don't seem to work out (at times), there's still tricks to hit it right, for near silly reasons:
In everyday life, we use money to fulfil our needs and desires, nobody provide favour for nothing. The same goes for cells in our body, life processes are driven by energy. Some molecules serve as energy "currencies" in cells:
ATP is called the "universal currency of energy". Whether you're a bacteria, worm, plant, animal or human, cells in your body uses ATP as "money" to pay for life processes.
Central to your use of oxygen to gain the most out of your food, is the grand roundabout of metabolism:

Cheer: a fair competition?
I've been watching the annual inter-school cheerleading competition held in Malaysia since 2007, the competition is a melting pot, you can be in it no matter your age or role. From a humble competition involving only secondary school students, Cheer evolved into a gathering where everybody is on media display.
Cheerleading is an expensive and emotionally charged sport. To win a competition, the schools invested vast resources for a 5 minute performance, it's a win it or lose it thing. Considering the enormous amount of time and effort needed to prepare for a major competition, winning or losing feels big in the hearts.
The annual Cheer competition, being a premier event that draws so much attention, it's of course worthy to take a look at its design. To make things fairer for participants, and to provide enhanced spectator experience, it's always good to ask some questions.
Before going further into discussion, let me describe the [current] design of Cheer. Cheer is divided into three regions: North, Central and South. North comprises the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia; Central for Klang Valley, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan; South for Malacca and Johore. To date, no team from East Malaysia has taken part in the national final of Cheer. Before the national final at Bukit Jalil, regional finals are held for Northern and Southern divisions; Central teams do not undergo elimination. The top three teams from North and South, respectively, compete with Central teams in the national final. The national final lasts for two days, the champion is determined by summing the scores.
The most questioned aspect of Cheer is of course, no elimination for Central teams. So, the national final is over represented by the Central teams. Let's see what people have to say.
"It's unfair for Northern and Southern division," says Wiwen, a supporter of Ave Maria Convent, Ipoh. "Some [North and South teams] who did not make it into the final may be better than some Central teams," citing her reason.
Crystal, a cheerleader of Cyrens of SM Sri KL, said that the lack of elimination for Central teams do not affect her very much, but she thinks the design is unfair for schools belonging to Northern and Southern regions.
It's also a fact that the organiser is known to change performance order at the last minute. For Cheer 2010, it was initially decided that teams perform in reverse order on day 2, then changed to: teams perform according to the score of day 1, in ascending order. By doing so, the organiser indirectly signaled performance level, I wasn't surprised to read remarks saying "the first few teams that perform [on day 2] were bad."
"Sudden change of performance order don't affect our performance very much. The main point is to get into top 15 on day 1, otherwise give a better shot on the second attempt," answered Crystal (Cyrens).

Beverly Hon, head judge of Cheer 2010, when asked about the lack of elimination of Central region, replied that fear of failure kept the [Northern and Southern] teams from stepping into the national final. "The teams are unsporting," she lamented. "The Northern and Southern regional finals are held for these teams to keep a title [of regional champion], in the case they didn't win any title in the national final."
Beverly added that there wasn't Northern final before the national final in year 2010. Titans, Titans Junior and Vivacious came at their own will to the national final in Stadium Putra, the Northern champion titles were only crowned during the finale itself.
Cheer 2010 finished with a new benchmark set by Cyrens. Changing the competition rules will change the economics of the game, are you willing to watch better performances?
