Biorefresher: Pacific Rim + Namewee Tokok ep 18

Biorefresher 1

Pacific Rim
I have watched Pacific Rim! Awesome beyond words, I demand you to watch in cinemas!

Biorefresher 2

Namewee strikes again! He's not alone in tax rabates for local films. I think witholding tax rebates for local films (even though they may contain little Malay dialogues) is unjustifiable. Who can deny the sweat and blood of fellow Malaysians?

On the other hand, I can see that the government messing up with screening schedule of Namewee's "Kara King" as a subtle persecution. The only way to beat it: watch his movie in cinemas! Isn't that simple? :) He's not asking you to attend a protest rallyK

Review: Turbo

I was glad to be able to catch the special screening of Turbo courtesy of Nuffnang Malaysia at TGV Cinemas in 1 Utama. This marked my first special screening since Wall-E (by Advertlets) a few years ago.

Synopsis: From the makers of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda, Turbo is a high-velocity 3D comedy about an underdog snail who kicks into overdrive when he miraculously attains the power of super-speed. But after making fast friends with a crew of streetwise, tricked-out es-car-goes, Turbo learns that no one succeeds on their own. So he puts his heart and shell on the line to help his pals achieve their dreams, before Turbo-charging his own impossible dream: winning the Indy 500.

Being a movie meant for kids, it is understandable that the director made extensive use of personification in the movie, to the point of breaking some rules of nature. The director suggested that snails have a closed circulatory system complete with a heart with red blood cells in the blood vessels, which are in fact not true for real snails. Turbo's shell broke but that didn't kill him.

The whole movie has been themed on chasing impossible dreams against all human logic, in which I'd recommend parental guidance for children. Otherwise, the movie stands out at telling this message: knowing who you are and capitalizing the advantage you have over others.

Of course I don't encourage finding loopholes in rules to take part in a race. But that was in the movie for entertainment.

I like how Guy Gagne was used to portray the difference between a person's public life and private life. He may be a nice and inspiring figure in the media but that's not what he actually is.

The movie wins for usage of literary devices but loses out in terms of plot. There is nothing to shout about for visual effects.

The best from Namewee's hater

Nasi Lemak 2.0 has garnered RM 7 million in the box office with a budget of RM 1 million. Tell me how awesome is that! That was such a big achievement for a non-Malay movie.

Fans gonna love Namewee, haters gonna hate more. Maybe I gonna use another word. One of Wee Meng Chee's anti-fan was on fire and got all his creative juice flowing.

His gift for Namewee was Nasi Lemak 2.0 BASI untuk Namewee!!, which translates as "Stale Coconut Milk Rice for Namewee".

It's not going to change me for being a supporter of Namewee but I must admire his creativity.

Namewee's fans are standing up for him in this video. At the moment, the video has 1400+ views, 27 likes and 875 dislikes.

He's such a controversial figure. But only if you take your time to listen to him, you'll understand what he's trying to say.

Drew Barry's "Breast Stem Cells" wins Imagine Science Visual Science Award

Fellow biomedical animator of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research Dr. Drew Barry and his student Etsuko Uno has won the Visual Science Award at the Imagine Science Film Festival for "Best short that depicts science in a visually engaging manner".

The award carries a cash prize of 1000 USD and is sponsored by Imaginal Disc.

Check out their winning title, Breast Stem Cell:

The primary function of the mammary gland is to produce milk to nourish young offspring. The mammary gland is comprised of three main cell types; alveolar, ductal and myoepithelial cells. During pregnancy, the mammary gland increases in size due to the action of breast stem cells, which can mature into any of the three mammary gland cell types.

Toy Story 3 review

toy story 3 poster

The third and final movie of the Toy Story series, the movie didn't disappoint despite being the last. The main attraction of this animated film of course, the storyline. It all started with Andy preparing for college, deciding what to do with his childhood toys (which are simple, routine things as we grow up) to some thrilling, action packed adventures at the daycare and garbage dump. After all the adrenaline rush, the movie leads us to the touching ending scene, where Andy decided to give away all of his toys.

Those behind the scenes at Disney and Pixar had done an awesome job entertaining people from all walks of life with their Toy Story series. Having worked hard in the Toy Story trilogy, it's time to say goodbye!

Inception movie review

Courtesy of Feeqsays Network and Ministry of Tourism, I got to watch Inception at Cathay Cineleisure Cinema at e@Curve, Mutiara Damansara.

Words that came to my mind: The universe all began with a thought. The thought got spoken into words; words transform into reality.

From what others have said, the movie is complex. The plot of the movie is complex, layers within layers, so many things happening simultaneously it challenges you to keep track of the storyline. What a brilliant plot, thumbs thumbs up!

inception movie scene
Messing up with physics!

In your dream, you are your own God. How cool is that! Everything is so real. Whatever you think of become instant reality.

inception train scene

I'm sure the scene above startled many. The movie never lack surprises! I mean, real surprises that jump out right at you.

My verdict? This is the best movie for the year. I have never seen a movie with such a brilliant plot and realistic special effects. Definitely worth your bucks in the cinema, if a 3D version is available the movie will be beyond description! However the movie demands your 100% attention to understand it.
